THE ICE IS OUT

The ice is out!

This winter felt long. While I love winter, the relentless teasing between 30 and 50 degrees throughout April had me wondering if Spring would ever come.

I kept asking friends and family throughout the North, "is the ice out?" I was trying to find the line where the ice was still holding, wondering how our lake fared.

I was debating. Would our lake be the first to open because it's so vast? Or would it hang on because of more cold water under the ice? I don't know the answer. Truthfully, I didn't look it up. I just wondered, letting it feel like something surprising and mystical instead of a well-documented piece of information.

So, here are the facts. From LakeMonster.com, April 20th is the sweet spot where water temps get warm enough to melt the ice. Great! But, my research wandered. The average reported July lake temperature is 75-79 degrees. That, my friends, is PERFECT lake water. Perfect!

For now, it's still too cold for a long swim, but daydreaming of summer days on the lake is in full swing.
